The U.F.O. & The Volcano |
|
On
the evening of Thursday, 29 January 2004, the US based Discovery
Channel aired a special programme concerning the results of the missions
of the NASA robotic explorers Spirit &
Opportunity.
This
programme was titled "Mars Rock - Update".
During the show, there was a segment on the possiblity that some of
the scientific findings of the twin missions could be caused by vulcanism.
Stock footage of an Earthly volcanic eruption was included for dramatisation.
During this very short three second clip, I noticed a small white object
in the vicinity of the smoke and ash cloud. What volcano, and when
the film was taken were not made clear during the programme. We are
left to guess.
The object in question appears to emerge from the volcanic cloud itself.
This obviously rules out any possibility that it might be a bird, airplane,
helicopter, or blimp. If it were a balloon, it seems unlikely that it
would come OUT of the cloud. The
hot, rising, convective gases in such a cloud draw in the surrounding
air as a sort of vacuum is created by the uplift. So a balloon would
have been drawn into the cloud, not pushed out.
Could the white object be a piece of rock? Perhaps, but it does seem
unlikely for the following reasons. The trajectory of the object remains
nearly parallel to the ground. The volcanic crater from which the cloud
rises is very close by. If the object were a rock spewed from the crater
atop the mountain, it should describe an arc shaped trajectory rather
than a flat one. So if a rock, the trajectory it followed would at some
point have had to described a righ angle turn. Now that's something commonly
associated with UFOs.
Below are a still picture illustrating the path of the object, and an animated GIF showing the object itself, and it's motion.

Airplanes, helicopters, and other conventional aircraft would logically avoid approaching close to an active volcanic eruption, let alone entering the ash cloud. There is a near zero chance that this white blip of an object could be a plane. At the end of the day, it's up to YOU to draw your own conclusions.
