The Amazing Kathy D. And

U.F.O.s Over Laughlin Nevada

DVDs Now Available At Project P.R.O.V.E.!

Our Friend Kathy D., of South Australia, met with my wife and me in person for the first time at the 15th Annual International UFO Congress (Logo at left) in Laughlin Nevada, 26 February to 4 March 2006. This was an exciting development to say the least. Kathy and I have "known" each other via the Internet for about five years, and it was great to finally see her in person. We shared a wonderful week of meetings, speakers, touring, and general fun. This was my first U.F.O. convention ever, and Kathy's eighth time at the U.F.O. Congress in Nevada. Being an "old hand" at this, she was of immense help to my wife and me getting ourselves oriented to the way things worked. Kathy also introduced us to someone very important, but that's a story for another time.

On 2 March 2006, during a conference lunch break, Kathy asked me if I would have a look at some photos she'd taken on the afternoon of Tuesday 28 February, just outside our hotel.

She was particularly concerned about one of the pics, and said "there might be something there". Naturally, I was quite curious to see if there actually was. Kathy has a lengthy record of snapping pictures of strange things in the sky, so there was no reason to doubt her this time.

The photos were loaded from her digital camera into my laptop computer, and the hunt began. The raw photos were 2592x1944 pixels, and very large. So we opened them in MS Paint™, and using the scroll bars, began to examin the frame bit by bit. Sure enough, after expending a little effort, we found something all right. It was a bright, shiny orb shaped object suspended in front of a dense black cloud! This object appeared in the last frame she shot that day. (Frame 5 below)

Kathy had taken 24 photographs that last day of February. Wondering if the object might be in any of the others, we began a detailed search. This resulted in the object, or others just like it, appearing in four of the earlier frames. All were taken in a ten minute period from 12:45 PM to 12:55 PM PST.

A number of animated GIFs have been prepared so that you may study this strange light moving about in the skies of Laughlin Nevada that day. They have been made smaller, or blown up as necessary for presentation on the web. Let's take a look at them now, shall we?

The above animated GIF is a composite of the five frames, taken on 28 February 2006, which contained the anomalous object. In each, the position of the anomaly is noted by the yellow circle. Since these have been reduced to 20% original size, the object is not visible to the naked eye. We will examine each frame, and the object within, later on in this examination. When consulting a map of Nevada, we find that Laughlin is on the banks of the Colorado River in the southernmost portion of the state, where it comes to a very narrow point. Arizona is just across the river, and California is only a very few miles to the west. The mountains in the distance are inside California.

Frame 1 is facing west toward California.

Frame 2 is facing to the west, but more to the south.

Frame 3 is facing east across the Colorado River (river at bottom left of frame).

Frame 4 faces back to the west, but slightly north.

Frame 5 is again to the west.

The above animated GIF illustrates the motion of this object, frame by frame, over the ten minutes our friend Kathy was taking pictures of the scenery. Her location was on the third floor swimming pool, and Sun-deck, at the Flamingo Restort Hotel in Laughlin, Nevada, on 28 February 2006. That thing really got around, didn't it?

Now we will take a closer look at each individual frame containing the anomaly. The blue box indicates the location of the object, and the area of zoom. The next frame circles the object in yellow, and is a 360x270 cut-out from the original sized 2592x1944 raw frame. This is followed by the same frame without the circle. Then we have a 300% blow-up, and a 550% blow-up.

All of the animated GIFs to come are arranged the same way.

Frame 3, 12:51 PM - East

The Colorado River is at bottom left next to the palm tree. Arizona is the land in the distance.

Frame 4, 12:54 PM - West

Three minutes have elapsed since Frame 3. Kathy was pointing her camera more skyward this time. The two towers of the Flamingo Resort Hotel in the scene are the California Tower at left, and the Arizona Tower at right.

Frame 5, 12:55 PM - West

Last frame of the series. Note that the object descended in the one minute since Frame 4. A helium balloon could not accomplish this feat.

We do not know what this object is. The fact that it did NOT move in any regular pattern nullifies it being a conventional aircraft such as an airplane or helicopter. Its luminosity proves that it is no bird. Balloons cannot move up and down and all around as this thing does. Therfore, we must classify it as unknown. What a strange coincidence that this anomaly appeared in the skies over Laughlin Nevada right in the middle of the largest U.F.O. convention of the year!
