I don't expect you to have the answers, these are just general observations. 1) Were the pix taken in video? Or still camera? What make, and model? This could be important. If video, what brand of tape? (There are large differences in quality from one brand to another). If still camera, again, what make, and model? What kind of film? Who did the processing? 2) Was the camera hand held, or mounted on the aircraft, like gun cameras, or perhaps was filming through the canopy? 3) Did the object pass the plane, or did the plane pass the object? 4) Was the plane a single seater, or larger? If larger, were there multiple witnesses? 5) What was the speed, and direction of travel, of the plane? 6) What was the speed, and direction of travel, of the object. 7) Did the pilot / observer give an estimate of the distance from his aircraft for this object? 8) Did the pilot / observer estimate the size of the object? And, now, just a few observations pertaining to the photos themselves: I notice that the cloud formations change radically between shots, suggesting high speed on the part of the Hungarian aircraft. Also, note that in the first shot, the object is slightly tilted, indicating either a climb or descent. In the second, or center shot, the object is horizontal, suggestive of a possible cruise mode. These changes of angle could be a result of a wide-angle lens, causing distortion at the edges of the pictures. I'm not debunking, nor am I endorsing these photos. I don't have enough data to do either. But answers to the above questions would provide more to work with. I hope the Hungarian authorities will make all of the data available for scrutiny. To date (March 2005) nothing more has been heard about this incident. © 2001 Jeff Challender Revised 2005 |
